Upcoming Fire Corps Net Operators:

07/19/2010 Fire Corps ACS Net - Joe  KF6MHL
07/26/2010 Fire Corps ACS Net - Wanda KG6GTA

BFCP ACS Net Control Operators are needed, we ask that all our members
at least ONCE A YEAR volunteer to be Net control Operator. If you need
assistance, or desire to do it from the EOC, let us know when you
volunteer! Rob Powell KJ6BCA is available as a mentor.

All Fire Corps members should have a new Fire Corps T-Shirt. This replaces
all former CDV and BEARS attire for activations. New Firecorps
polo shirts have arrived and will be issued at upcoming Fire Corps meetings.

This Wednesday, July 21 is the general Fire Corps meeting. Topics will
include a full review of the 4th of July Starlight Bowl. There will be a
guest speaker talking about caring for family pets after a crisis.
Plan to attend.

At last week's ACS meeting, Alex McGregor K9AKM taught the ACS
class component that all members need to complete. Everyone passed
the review test afterwards.

This Sunday July 25 is our ACS Comm Day. We presently have 25
students signed up for Amateur Technician class being taught by Norm
Goodkin K6YXH. We will have computers available for people to take ICS
classes online. Alex McGregor K9AKM will be teaching the ACS class
component that everyone needs to complete. We will also have the EOC
Radio Room and an HF radio station set up on the island. Lunch will be
provided to attendees. Come join us!

Thank you to those members that were able to assist with last Saturday's 
Glendale Cruise Night. This is a big event for Glendale GEARS and
they appreciate our assistance.

Saturday August 14 is the Santa Barbara ARC Ham Fest at Earl Warren
Show Grounds. Various vendors plus emergency response vehicles will
be on display. Go to www.sbarc.org for more information.

Saturday August 28 is the Angeles Crest AC-100 race. Amateur radio
provides vital communications for this 100 mile foot race from Wrightwood
to Altadena. Eric Christensen K6EJC will be Captain of the Chilao

Newsflash: FCC Modifies Amateur Rules to Allow Participation in
Disaster and Emergency Drills on Behalf of an Employer without a Waiver.
This allows amateur radio operators that are employees of a public safety
agency or hospital to operate during emergency preparedness drills. For
more information go to the ARRL web site www.arrl.org.

Everyone should monitor the BFCP ACS repeaters 446.860, now identified
as “ALPHA”; along with N6MQS 448.540, now identified as “BRAVO,”
on a daily basis.

We are entering brush fire season, so be prepared. Have your go kits
and radios ready. If you are Arson Watch certified, keep ready and
available. Monitor humidity and wind conditions. Be prepared.

If you have not already done so, please contact Kris at Burbank Human
Resources (Administrative Services Bldg, 2nd floor) (across the street
from City Hall) to replace your old CDV ID with new Firecorps ID. It only
takes about 10 minutes! Her phone is 818 238-5044.

Consider upgrading your ham license. The IRC (Independent Radio Club)
is having general license class and exam this Saturday July 24 and
Sunday July 25 at Eagle Rock City Hall. Go to www.ircradio.org for
more information. ARES has a GROL (General Radio/non amateur) class
(begins August 12) scheduled at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in
Van Nuys. Check www.arrllax.org for more info.

Rob Powell KJ6BCA has agreed to be a mentor to other members in
training for net control operator. ACS is planning Saturday morning
mentoring sessions at the EOC. Contact Alex K9AKM to sign up and help.

Don't forget to join us for coffee social at Starbucks next to Bob's Big Boy
on Riverside Drive on Wednesdays and most Mondays. Starts 5.30pm;
if you can’t make it then call in on 446.860.

Crescenta Valley DCS members are asked to attend a CVS station
meeting on Tuesday July 20 at 7pm. Due to DCS Staff meeting tonight
there will not be a CVS Net tonight.

1900 hours. It is very important that we have 100% participation.

The conditions that existed then, are here now. High heat, low humidity,
and wind make for another bad fire season. You MUST be ready for

radios, extra battery, etc. be ready at any time.

Station 27, Marina del Rey, is looking for an additional 10 - 15 members
to assist with their First Annual Celebrity Charity Basketball Game
on Saturday July 17th, from 0900 to 1400 hours, at Cal State University
Dominguez Hills. The LASD personnel from Marina Del Rey have
specifically asked for our assistance and we need to support them. At the
moment there are only 10 members signed up. This event requires at
least 25 members and less than half that number signed up. If you can
work this event, please contact Nancy Geitgey at y001 at lacdcs.org.

event to assist LASD with communications during the event. I appreciate
their support. I think everyone who participated enjoyed the Steak BBQ.
The 2011 event has already been canceled, but should it be put back
on the calendar, I hope more DCS members from other District Stations
will assist us.
