COUNTYWIDE DCS MESSAGES:
Hi
BEARS members that are current DCS members are invited
and encouraged to participate in activities in other
DCS districts. (Burbank is part of
District 12, Crescenta Valley.) This includes the
election on February 5 (see message # 3 for more
information). Hours for this activity are
approximately 2000 hrs to 0200 hrs.
Santa Clarita DCS District # 6 is looking for
communications assistance with the Tour de California
bike ride from Ventura into the Santa Clarita Valley
area on Saturday 02/23 and Sunday 02/24. If you are
interested, contact Tom @ F001@LACDCS.COM
DCS uniforms & ID card are required to participate in
DCS activities.
The next DCS training class day is Saturday, February 9.

At this weeks' DCS CRO/DCO meeting it was announced
that the State of California OES (Office of
Emergency Services) is requiring ALL emergency
volunteers to be certified in FEMA Courses ICS 100,
200, IS 700 and now 800.
All courses may be done on line and can be accessed
via www.FEMA.gov or the LA County DCS website:
www.LACDCS.COM. Most CDV and BEARS members
have already taken ICS 100 and IS 700 courses.
The requirement deadline is September 30, 2008.

Training Opportunity On January 30 at 1930 hours there
will be a training course in being a Shadow Operator
and Officer Safety for Volunteers held at EOB. These
are mandatory for RDT and we have a limited number of
seats available for members. If you would like to sign

On February 9, 0900 hours at EOB there will be a
Reporting Emergencies with Ham Radio Course. Attendees
will learn how trained communicators are the vital first
link in the public safety chain when they witness an
emergency event. Topics include what to report,
getting the right information to the correct public
safety agency in an organized manner, and a discussion
of various available communications options. This class
is presented from the viewpoint of a trained public
safety dispatcher and emergency responder. If you

support to the Election. Lancaster, Pomona, El Monte,

March 17 at the Burbank Fire Training Center located

opportunity for you to interact with your fellow members
and to get information and ask questions you may have
about your Organization.

BEARS MESSAGES FOR WEEK OF 01/21/08:
1. The official CDV and BEARS information is available
on the CDV website by directing your browser to
www.burbankcdv.org/BEARS
2. Gene Roske AE6GR is asking for additional operators
to assist in doing the Monday night nets. CVS is
responsible for handling the Countywide DCS net on
Monday, February 4 @ 1900 hrs. If you are available,
contact Gene at AE6GR@ARRL.net or 818 388-5643.
We also need more BEARS members to volunteer for the
Monday night BEARS nets. Contact Eric at 818 599-6883
or ka6iht@charter.net
3. We are in the process of updating the BEARS roster.
If your callsign, address, home/work/cell phone numbers
or email address have changed, please advise Joe Dunn
at: JD@jnm.cc so he can keep our files up to date.
4. THE SEMI-ANNUAL DCS MEETING will be at 1900 hrs on
Monday, March 17, 2008 @ the Burbank Fire Training
Center/EOC. Burbank BEARS will be the hosts for that
meeting.
5. CDV/BEARS/ARSON WATCH UNIFORM ITEMS:
As of January 1, 2008, Eric K6EJC is now responsible
for handling CDV/BEARS/Arson Watch uniform items.
You may contact him at any meeting or via email at
KA6IHT@charter.net. He hopes to have items previously
ordered for pick-up at BEARS and CDV meetings.

6. FOR 2008: ALL HOURS REPORTED TO CDV will be handled
by Thom O'Shaughnnessy KG6FXS. If you are the net
control officer, send Thom a copy of reported hours
for each net at: kg6fxs@yahoo.com Thom needs name,
call and number of hours for each member check in,
plus total number of operators and total number of
hours.
