Training Opportunity – This Wednesday, January 30, 
1830 hours at Station A, there will be a training course 
on being a Shadow Operator and Officer Safety for 
Volunteers.  These are mandatory for RDT and we have a 
limited number of seats available for members.  If you

email at staff11@lacdcs.com.  This is offered on a 
first come, first served basis.

DCS will be providing support to the Election.  
Lancaster, Pomona, El Monte, Van Nuys, Torrance,

Training Opportunity: On Saturday, February 9 from 
0830–1030 hours at Station A there will be a Traffic 
Certification Class taught by Sgt Jablonsky.  
On Saturday, February 9 from 1100–1200 hours at 
Station A, there will be a Reporting Emergencies with 
Ham Radio Course.  Attendees will learn how trained 
communicators are the vital first link in the public 
safety chain when they witness an emergency event.

On Saturday, February 9 from 0800 to 1200 hours at the 
EOB, a Net Control class will be offered to the Zebra 
Unit.  This class will cover the basics, forms, how to 
handle traffic, a review of the radio room and hands on 
training.  I strongly suggest that everyone attend this 
class since this directly impacts your unit during 
activations.  Please RSVP to me at staff11@lacdcs.com 
as soon as possible.

BEARS MESSAGES FOR 01/28/08:


1. The official CDV and BEARS information is available 
on the CDV website by directing your browser to 
www.burbankcdv.org/BEARS.  Current week and previous 
weeks’ messages may be found on the BEARS page of 
the website. 

2. Gene Roske AE6GR is asking for additional operators 
to assist in doing the Monday night nets.  CVS is 
responsible for handling the Countywide DCS net on 
Monday, February 4 @ 1900 hrs.  If you are available, 
contact Gene at AE6GR@ARRL.net or 818 388-5643.  We 
also need more BEARS members to volunteer for the 
Monday night BEARS nets.  Contact Eric at 
818 599-6883 or ka6iht@charter.net 

3. We are in the process of updating the BEARS roster.  
If your callsign, address, home/work/cell phone numbers 
or email address have changed, please advise Joe Dunn 
at: JD@jnm.cc so he can keep our files up to date.

4. THE SEMI-ANNUAL DCS MEETING will be at 1900 hrs on 
Monday, March 17, 2008 @ the Burbank Fire Training 
Center/EOC.  Burbank BEARS will be the hosts for 
that meeting.

5. CDV/BEARS/ARSON WATCH UNIFORM ITEMS:
As of January 1, 2008, Eric K6EJC is now responsible 
for handling CDV/BEARS/Arson Watch uniform items.  
You may contact him at any meeting or via email at 
KA6IHT@charter.net.  He hopes to have items previously 
ordered for pick-up at BEARS and CDV meetings.  You 
can also contact him at HRO 818 842-1786.

6. FOR 2008: ALL HOURS REPORTED TO CDV will be handled 
by Thom O’Shaughnessy KG6FXS.  If you are the net 
control officer, send Thom a copy of reported hours 
for each net at: kg6fxs@yahoo.com.  Thom needs name, 
call and number of hours for each member check in, 
plus total number of operators and total number 
of hours.

If you are interested in participating in Burbank Arson 
Watch/Storm Watch patrols, please contact Teri 
Christopher @ 818 954-9979.  We appreciate all the hard 
work of the dedicated core Arson Watch members.  Keep 
up the good work.  We need more people to volunteer as 
more Santa Ana conditions/high winds and rains are 
expected.

We appreciated those members that volunteered and were 
on standby this past weekend in anticipation of last 
weekend’s heavy rains.

followed by DCS CVS/Crescenta Valley Station Net on 
145.540 MHz Simplex @ 1930 hrs.

Don’t forget that Gene AE6GR still needs net control 
operators to assist at CVS (Crescenta Valley Station).  
Part of our DCS agreement is to assist at the next 
level up, that being to participate in the CVS nets.
