DCS is looking for energetic and dynamic members to participate in our
newly formed Training Committee.  The Training Committee is responsible
for introducing stimulating programs to inform, educate and advance
knowledge base in Emergency Communications.  Potential candidates

Routine:  2/2/09; 1141 hours
TO:  All Members
From:   Exec. Staff

The Tuesday Noon Net is a chance for all members to check their equipment
and practice their radio skills. We accept relays since this is practice for
times of emergency when this method may need to be utilized. However,
these relays must be actual contacts, not imagined, via telephone/text,
and within the time of the net. Early check-ins are for special occasions
and should not be a weekly event. Anyone who asks for an early check in
on a weekly basis will be asked to check in with their district when it is
called.

We encourage all members to check in, practice their radio skills, and check
their equipment each and every week. We also recognize that many
members need an early check in once in a while and relays will happen.
All we ask is that the guidelines be followed.

While we have had no recent fires or flooding in the Burbank area, due to
forecasted rains, we may need to consider Storm Watch patrols. Please be
available in case you are needed for Arson Watch/Storm Watch Patrols.
Contact Eric K6EJC at k6ejc@att.net or 818 599-6883 to volunteer for a shift.

This past Friday night rains were very heavy at times and Storm Watch
Patrol was activated. Pat Zehr, Paul Lukasiak, Alex McGregor were on patrol
with Eric Christensen as net control. All the canyons and wash areas checked
OK, no significant mud run offs were noted. Thanks again to those who
participated and to those that were on stand-by for potential patrols if needed
on Saturday or Sunday night. Luckily, they were not needed.

------------------------------------------------

During the January 14 BEARS meeting, members reviewed the procedures
needed to program a frequency into their radio. Review your radio’s owner's
manual on the steps to:

1. Select Band and go to VFO mode.
2. Enter frequency into VFO.
3. Enter offset shift if using repeater.
4. Enter subaudible tone (PL) if used.
5. Label channel number or name if desired.
6. Save into memory.

We may get called out and need to reprogram our own radios in the field
with new frequencies, tones, etc. to participate in an event. Being familiar
with our own radio is important for success.

------------------------------------------------

The February 11 BEARS meeting is a training session on Net Control
Operations taught by LA County DCS leadership. Plan to attend this
important training session. We are inviting our friends in Glendale GEARS
and San Fernando City DCS to join in this training.
