DCS District 12 Members -

DCS has announced the renewal procedure for 2009.  To begin, download
the required forms from the DCS website: www.lacdcs.org/renewal.html.
Complete those forms, make a copy for yourself, and then send the
signed originals to this address:

Disaster Communications Service
c/o Sgt. Ken Binkley
Crescenta Valley Sheriff Station
4554 Briggs Avenue
La Crescenta, CA  91214-3101

Do not give the forms to me or to your city radio officer.

When your application forms have been approved at the district level, you
will receive instructions for being fingerprinted and photographed.

Additional information is available in the attached question and answer
document provided by the DCS Executive Staff.

These forms also can be used to apply for membership in DCS.  If you are
not eligible to renew, you may be eligible to be a DCS member in 2009 by
completing a new member training class at the county EOC.

------------------------------------------------

While we have had no recent fires or flooding in the Burbank area, due to
forecasted rains, we may need to consider Storm Watch patrols. Please
be available in case you are needed for Arson Watch/Storm Watch Patrols.
Contact Eric K6EJC at k6ejc@att.net or 818 599-6883 to volunteer for a shift.

------------------------------------------------

During the January 14 BEARS meeting, members reviewed the procedures
needed to program a frequency into their radio. Review your radio’s owners
manual on the steps to:

1. Select Band and go to VFO mode.
2. Enter frequency into VFO.
3. Enter offset shift if using repeater.
4. Enter subaudible tone (PL) if used.
5. Label channel number or name if desired.
6. Save into memory.

We may get called out and need to reprogram our own radios in the field with
new frequencies, tones, etc. to participate in an event. Being familiar with
our own radio is important for success.

------------------------------------------------

Here is the BEARS calendar for 2009. Plan to attend every month.
Important training will be featured at each meeting. All interested persons
