((3)) LOCAL (BURBANK) BEARS MESSAGES FOR WEEK OF 4/13/2009:

There were no DCS or BEARS messages or nets last week due to the
Semi-Annual DCS meeting held in Agoura Hills. Primary topic was DCS
renewals and FEMA courses.

Here are this week's messages:

Welcome to 2009! The BEARS have a busy year scheduled ahead.

Upcoming BEARS Net Control Operators:

04/15/09 TAX Day - YIKES! (also CDV Meeting!)
04/16/09 Disney Studios Safety Fair
04/20/09 BEARS Net - Alex McGregor KI6QYA (from EOC)
04/27/09 BEARS Net - Wanda Penner KG6GTA

------------------------------------------------

We had an AWESOME April 8 BEARS meeting: San Fernando Valley ARC
members and hard core HF contesters Bill Stein KC6T and Steve Wardlaw
KN6Y gave a great presentation on Introduction to HF. We were shown that
it is possible to get on HF with a minimum of expense and even if you live in
an area where antennas are limited. Low profile dipoles work wonders.
Or go HF Mobile!

There was also some discussion by Thom KG6FXS about the upcoming
changes to BEARS and the CDV program -- changing to the Fire Corps
program. A full briefing will be made during the May BEARS and CDV
meetings.

------------------------------------------------

Thanks again to BEARS members Alex McGregor, Chester Brown, David
Schoch, Manny Rodriguez, Pat Zehr and Eric Christensen for sharing their
experiences with the Baker to Vegas Police Run. Everyone survived and
enjoyed the event. Everyone also expressed interest in doing it again
next year!!

We are looking for additional personnel to assist; if you are interested contact
Eric K6EJC. This was the 25th Anniversary run and at the Baker to Vegas
awards ceremony. Eric K6EJC received a service award plaque for HRO
Burbank.

------------------------------------------------

Don't forget the CDV meeting is this Wednesday night April 15. (Same day
as tax day!) Make sure to plan to attend the May 13th BEARS meeting,
as Wanda Penner KG6GTA has planned another awesome earthquake
drill to test our skills!

------------------------------------------------

Check your CDV membership card; if it is due for renewal, call the City Live
Scan office at 818 238-5340.

------------------------------------------------

Here is the BEARS calendar for the rest of 2009. Plan to attend every month.
Important training will be featured at each meeting. All interested persons
