I wish to extend my thanks to everyone who participated in the CERT
Refresher today. Your hard work and professionalism did not go unnoticed.
During our time on duty we handled routine and urgent messages which
helped the coordinators make this event a successful one. I received many
good remarks from the various agency leaders that we were working with.
Again, allow me to express my hearty thank you for a job well done!

------------------------------------------------

Last Thursday, BEARS members Joe Dunn KF6MHL and Eric Christensen
K6EJC assisted PSJMC (Providence St Joseph Medical Center) with the
Safety Fair at Providence Tarzana Medical Center. The new PSJMC mobile
command trailer (of which Joe & Eric built the radio room) was on display
for hospital employees to view.

BEARS and LA City ACS members shared in showing the communications
capabilities to hospital employees. ARES had a very strong showing with
8-10 volunteers! GOOD JOB!! After discovering some problems with the HF
antenna, ARES members were able to get our HF radio working.

ARES is sponsoring a General and Extra license class at Providence
Tarzana Medical Center (US101 @ Reseda) beginning TOMORROW NIGHT
May 5. Additional dates May 7, 12, 14, 19 with exam on May 26. 7pm to
9pm. Cost $25. For more information go to: http://www.areslax.org/

------------------------------------------------

BEARS are in the progress of scheduling a General license class at the
Burbank Fire Training Center in June. More information to follow in a few
weeks.

------------------------------------------------

Make sure to plan to attend the May 13th BEARS meeting, as Wanda
Penner KG6GTA has planned another awesome earthquake drill to test
our skills!

------------------------------------------------

Eric K6EJC will be out of town working the Dayton HamVention from
Tuesday May 12 to Sunday May 17. Joe Dunn KF6MHL will be in charge
of the BEARS during that time.

------------------------------------------------

Check your CDV membership card; if it is due for renewal, call the City
Live Scan office at 818 238-5340.

------------------------------------------------

Amateur Radio Field Day is less than 2 months away. BEARS are planning
to have field day at the Fire Training Center as we did last year. We will
utilize the BEARS Cushcraft R8 HF vertical antenna for one HF station and
our Windom dipole for the other HF station on the grass island. Plan to join
us on Saturday, June 27. Contact Field Day Captain Rick Penner
W6RJP at rpenner@att.net for more information.

------------------------------------------------

Remember to keep hydrated (DRINK WATER!!) on warm days. An
emergency responder is of no use when they become the victim.

------------------------------------------------

Here is the BEARS calendar for the rest of 2009. Plan to attend every month.
Important training will be featured at each meeting. All interested persons
are invited to attend.
