We have no BEARS nets scheduled until Monday June 1 (first day of
BEARS General license class). If you are available for June 1,
please contact Eric K6EJC.

Everyone needs to be proficient as net controller, it is not difficult, it just
takes practice!

------------------------------------------------

BEARS are in the process of scheduling a General license class at the
Burbank Fire Training Center. The dates are Monday June 1 thru Friday
June 5, evenings. Test will be given during final session. Please email Eric
K6EJC if you are interested. K6EJC@att.net. Required text book is ARRL
General Class license manual $24.95 (available at HRO). Pre study is
recommended.

------------------------------------------------

I am sorry that I missed it, but I heard that last week's BEARS meeting was
a BIG SUCCESS due to Wanda Penner KG6GTA extensive planning. She
created another awesome earthquake drill to test our skills! I heard Eric
Baumgardner gave an update on the current CDV/BEARS organization.

Eric K6EJC (me) is back in town after working the Dayton HamVention last
week. Just about every vendor & manufacturer was there showing and
selling their products. Thanks again to Joe Dunn KF6MHL for leading the
BEARS during my absence.

------------------------------------------------

Check your CDV membership card; if it is due for renewal, call the City
Live Scan office at 818 238-5340.

------------------------------------------------

Amateur Radio Field Day is less than 2 months away. BEARS are
planning to have field day at the Fire Training Center as we did last year.
We will utilize the BEARS Cushcraft R8 HF vertical antenna for one HF
station and our Windom dipole for the other HF station on the grass island.
Plan to join us on Saturday, June 27. Contact Field Day Captain Rick
Penner W6RJP at rpenner@att.net for more information. Consider taking
the BEARS General license class so you will be ready to operate HF!!

------------------------------------------------

Remember to keep hydrated (DRINK WATER!!) on warm days. An
emergency responder is of no use when they become the victim.

------------------------------------------------

Here is the BEARS calendar for the rest of 2009. Plan to attend every month.
Important training will be featured at each meeting. All interested persons
are invited to attend.
