The DCS web page has been relocated with a new domain name and server.
You can now reach the web site at www.lacdcs.ORG. The website
(HTTP://LACDCS.WORDPRESS) will continue and the links between the
two sites will be added very soon. Visit HTTP://LACDCS.WORDPRESS
often as we add or change items almost daily. Also, this will be the website
used during activations for up to date information. Please note that the
WWW.LACDCS.COM website is not to be used. Although it may look
similar to our website, it has nothing to do with our organization. Please
update your links, address books, cell phones, etc. as soon as possible.

Routine: 6/1/2009, 0820 hours
To: All DCO’s
From: Exec. Staff

It is now time to review your records for each member to make sure they
are on track for hours for 2009. Each member will need 48 hours in 2009
in order to retain their membership in 2010. Keep in mind that December
is a slow month in which very little occurs; it is difficult to make up a large
amount of hours at the very end of the year. Please note that once you turn
in your report for hours for 2009 (in January 2010) there can be no further
corrections. Please review your report each quarter to make sure that all
hours are included. If you have any questions, please contact Rick
Norwood, Staff 11.

Sam Cramer is very busy and has not been able to commit as much time
as he would like to our organization. Unfortunately his commitments do not
afford him the free time to work with our organization. We would like to
express our deep thanks and appreciation to Sam for his many years of
service and his contributions to DCS. Over his years with our group he
rose from a member in CVS to the rank of Staff 10 donating thousands of
hours and helping the organization grow and expand. He will be missed but
I’m sure we will see him around. We wish him the very best in all that he
takes on in the future and hope his schedule becomes less demanding so
that he can rejoin our ranks.

06/22/09 BEARS Net - Operator Needed
06/29/09 Wanda Penner KG6GTA

Everyone needs to be proficient as net controller, it is not difficult, it just
takes practice! Please volunteer.

------------------------------------------------

At the recent DCS DCO/CRO meeting, BEARS City Radio Officer Eric
Christensen K6EJC received his LASD (LA Sheriff) 1,000 hour volunteer pin
from DCS Sgt. Robin Limon.

------------------------------------------------

Next week's BEARS meeting on June 10 is our annual Field Day and 4th
of July Planning meeting. Rick Penner W6RJP is our Field Day Captain.
He has created a fantastic field day flyer and is having them mailed to all
hams in the City of Burbank. Additional copies will be available at Burbank
FD Fire Station 11 and at HRO Burbank. Please send him an email at
RPenner@att.net to sign up for Field Day.

We will also be scheduling personnel to work the 4th of July Fireworks Show
at the Starlight Bowl. Assignments include Bowl operations, Net Control
Operations, Canteen services, and Arson Watch Patrol.

Marty Woll N6VI, ARRL South Western Division Assistant Director will be
our guest speaker at the June 10 BEARS meeting. He will be discussing
emergency communications (EmComm) skills with a review of Message
handling and EOC Net Control Operations. He will also be sharing some
information about the services provided and available through ARRL,
including information about the recent antenna tower case in Palmdale.

Please plan to attend this very important and informative meeting. We have
a lot of material to cover so please arrive on time (7pm).

------------------------------------------------

Check your CDV membership card; if it is due for renewal, call the City
Live Scan office at 818 238-5340.

------------------------------------------------

Amateur Radio Field Day is less than 4 weeks away. BEARS are planning
to have field day at the Fire Training Center as we did last year. We will utilize
the BEARS Cushcraft R8 HF vertical antenna for one HF station and our
Windom dipole for the other HF station on the grass island. Plan to join us
on Saturday, June 27. Contact Field Day Captain Rick Penner W6RJP at
rpenner@att.net for more information. Consider taking the BEARS General
license class so you will be ready to operate HF!!

------------------------------------------------

As we enter summer and the accompanying brush fire season, please be
prepared to assist with Arson Watch Patrols. As we transition to the new
Firecorp program, additional Arson Watch Patrol training will be required for
those who participate.

Remember to keep hydrated (DRINK WATER!!) on warm days. An emergency
responder is of no use when they become the victim.

------------------------------------------------

Here is the BEARS calendar for the rest of 2009. Plan to attend every month.
Important training will be featured at each meeting. All interested persons
are invited to attend.
