Routine: 6/1/2009, 0820 hours
To: All DCO’s
From: Exec. Staff
It is now time to review your records for each member to make sure they
are on track for hours for 2009. Each member will need 48 hours in 2009
in order to retain their membership in 2010. Keep in mind that December
is a slow month in which very little occurs; it is difficult to make up a
large amount of hours at the very end of the year. Please note that once
you turn in your report for hours for 2009 (in January 2010) there can be no
further corrections. Please review your report each quarter to make sure that
all hours are included. If you have any questions, please contact Rick
Norwood, Staff 11.

Amateur Radio Field Day is THIS SATURDAY, June 27. BEARS are
planning to have field day at the Fire Training Center as we did last year.
Our field day captain Rick Penner W6RJP has decided that the BEARS will
operate 3 HF and one VHF station. We will use the BEARS call sign N6CDJ
and identify as "3FLAX." (3 is for 3 HF transmitters, F for EOC, LAX for Los
Angeles ARRL region).
We plan to have one HF station using the BEARS IC-706 MKIIG radio
inside the EOC main room using the BEARS Cushcraft R8 HF vertical
antenna set up just outside the EOC on the grass. Chester Brown K6CRB
is bringing his personal Icom IC-718 HF transceiver which will be set up on
the grass area next to the red CDV trailer. Our primary HF station will be the
Yaesu FT-950 on loan from HRO that we used last year. It will be set up on
the grass island in the middle of the parking lot and will use our Windom
dipole tied off from the top of the fire training tower to the tree and then to a
second structure east of the island. Our VHF station will be in the EOC
radio room using the Yaesu FT-7800R 2m/440 radio. We will use the
Honda generators to power the 2 outside stations.
Plan to join us on Saturday, June 27 between 9am and 8pm. We will need
several people for the morning antenna construction crew and evening
take-down crew. Master Chefs Bill Tracy KE6EQJ and Wanda Penner
KG6GTA will be in charge of food services.
Come join our recent General class upgrades Tamara Schaefer K6TWS and
Pat Zehr KI6DIB plus Extra Class upgrade Chester Brown K6CRB who will
be hard at work scoring points for our Field Day station. Unlicensed visitors
and amateur technicians are allowed to operate in the presence of a
General or Extra class operator.

As we enter summer and the accompanying brush fire season, please be
prepared to assist with Arson Watch Patrols. As we transition to the new
Firecorp program, additional Arson Watch Patrol training will be required
for those who participate. The Fire Department is making available a FD
white Chevy S10 pickup truck available for Arson Watch Patrols. Soon we
hope to add D-Net and 2m/440 amateur radios to the truck for
communications.
------------------------------------------------
Remember to keep hydrated (DRINK WATER!!) on warm days. An emergency
responder is of no use when they become the victim.

Bob's Big Boy on Riverside Dr. from approximately 5pm to 7pm.
