It is now time to review your records for each member to make sure they are
on track for hours for 2009. Each member will need 48 hours in 2009 in
order to retain their membership in 2010. Keep in mind that December is a
slow month in which very little occurs; it is difficult to make up a large
amount of hours at the very end of the year. Please note that once you turn in
your report for hours for 2009 (in January 2010) there can be no further
corrections. Please review your report each quarter to make sure that all
hours are included. If you have any questions, please contact
Rick Norwood, Staff 11.

To all of you, I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one
of you for participating and making the DCS event a success, with the
Hacienda Heights Parade. Except for some repeater interference, you all did
a great job and the parade committee was very pleased. Also, I want to
thank Mario P024, Carl P125 and Roy P105, for their work on 4th of July
night, doing fire watch on the hill top! Mario tells me that the fire department
was pleased for the light provided by the van, so they could work on the
fire engine equipment! You all get a big AT-A-BOY! Thanks again, John,
P001, Station 14

There has been some question regarding our use of the APCO phonetics
and specifically why we use them. First, this has been the practice of DCS
since the beginning of our organization. Second, and most importantly, the
membership took a vote on this very subject at the Semi-Annual meeting in
2007 at the AQMD in Pomona. Everyone in attendance was given a chance
to choose between the International Phonetics used by the Ham community
or the APCO phonetics. The members agreed and voted on using the APCO
phonetics since this is used by our sponsoring agency. Since we are
administered by the Sheriff’s Dept and all our communications run through
the Sheriff Dept DOC during an activation, then there is less chance of a
misunderstanding and an error in a message. Please note that the APCO
phonetic system will continue to be used and should be used at all times
when either checking into a net, running a net, during an activation, or
anytime you will be handling DCS business. If you need a list of the
APCO system, please visit www.lacdcs.org.

August 1, 2009 is a very busy day in which a Quarterly Trainins session
had been scheduled. In addition the EOB is in the middle of construction
which limits the availability of rooms. Due to these reasons it has been
determined that it would be better to cancel the training session. Please
mark your calendars for November 7 for the next training session. We
apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Tuesday noon nets are important to all of us. It is designed for you to test
out your radios from wherever you are at the time. You should know the
capabilities of your radios throughout the County. Let’s see if District 12
can lead all of the other districts for check-ins on July 14, 2009. And do not
forget you get one hour credit for the check-in.
