((2)) DCS DISTRICT 12 - CRESCENTA VALLEY SHERIFF'S STATION
MESSAGES FOR WEEK OF 8/17/09:
To: All Members
From: Exec. Staff
The renewal process has been quite an undertaking. As you know the
process is not as simple as it had been in the past. Our ability to print ID’s
and then turn around and issue them in a timely manner is not what it used
to be. Many of the processes handled in house by DCS have been taken
out of our hands. Even though your renewal packets were submitted by the
deadline, there were a few rather large stumbling blocks. Not only was there
a bottleneck outside of DCS, but there were and continue to be issues with
the Livescans. We understand this is very frustrating and are feeling exactly
the same as you. Please note that the Exec. Staff has been trying to get
this process moving along but we are just as frustrated as you.

BEARS member Dave Schoch KI6UCK shares the following about
September 2009 National Preparedness Month:
Website info: http://www.ready.gov/america/npm09/index.html
National Preparedness Month (NPM) is sponsored by the Ready Campaign
and Citizen Corps. NPM is held each September and is designed to
encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in
their homes, businesses and communities.
September 2009 is the sixth annual NPM. This year will focus on changing
perceptions about emergency preparedness and helping Americans understand
what it truly means to be Ready.
National Preparedness Month Coalition membership is open to all public
and private sector organizations. Groups can register to become a National
Preparedness Month Coalition Member by visiting www.ready.gov and
clicking on the National Preparedness Month banner.
In 2008, the Ready Campaign partnered with more than 3,200 organizations
to highlight the importance of public emergency preparedness throughout
September.
Coalition Members during NPM share preparedness information with their
members, customers, employees and communities. Throughout the year,
the Ready Campaign promotes individual emergency preparedness. Ready is
a national public service advertising campaign, produced in partnership with
The Advertising Council, which is designed to educate and empower
Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural
disasters and potential terrorist attacks.
The Campaign’s Web sites (www.ready.gov and listo.gov) and toll-free
numbers (1-800-BE-READY and 1-888-SE-LISTO) provide Americans with
free emergency preparedness information.
Citizen Corps brings together community and government leaders to involve
community members in emergency preparedness, planning, mitigation,
response and recovery. These Councils enable collaborative planning between
government and civic leaders and provide localized support for: outreach and
educational efforts to the public; training and exercises that effectively
integrate emergency responders, volunteers with a response role, and the
general public; and volunteer programs that augment the full range of
emergency response services. For more information about Citizen Corps,
visit www.citizencorps.gov.

Thanks again to PSJMC Providence St. Joseph Medical Center for hosting
last week's BEARS meeting. The meeting which included a tour of the
PSJMC mobile command trailer plus dinner provided by PSJMC was a big
hit. Many BEARS members expressed interest in joining the PSJMC
Volunteer Program. See you Wednesday night at the CDV meeting at the
Fire Training Center.
------------------------------------------------
Check your CDV membership card; if it is due for renewal, call the City
Live Scan office at 818 238-5340.
------------------------------------------------
Remember to keep hydrated (DRINK WATER!!) on warm days. An emergency
responder is of no use when they become the victim.
------------------------------------------------
Don't forget to join us at BEARS Coffee Social at Starbucks next to Bob's
Big Boy on Riverside Dr. from approximately 5pm to 7pm on Wednesdays.
------------------------------------------------
Thank you to Bill Smith N6MQS for allowing BEARS to use the
