As was said in the final BEARS messages: the Burbank BEARS has
years of heritage as an awesome organization, considered as one of
the best. As such, you are part of the best. In January, we changed our
name to Fire Corps ACS, but we are still the same people. We will continue
to be the best. Let us continue this heritage as we move forward into 2010.

------------------------------------------------

On Sunday January 10, we had a work party to clean up and organize the
conex storage box at the Fire Training Center. Thank you to Alex McGregor,
David Schoch, Bill Tracy, Paul Lukasiak and Eric Christensen. Afterwords,
Rick & Wanda Penner joined Eric to discuss upcoming activities.

------------------------------------------------

This Wednesday January 13 is the first Fire Corps ACS meeting for 2010
at 7pm at the Fire Training Center. We will discuss Go Bags and
emergency response kits and what the difference is. We will also discuss
our transition to Fire Corps ACS program and moving forward.

------------------------------------------------

Next Wednesday night, January 20 is the Fire Corps general meeting.
It will be held at Fire Station 11 at 6 pm (note location and time change).
This meeting will be for exchanging your old CDV ID card for your new
Fire Corps ID card. You must surrender your old card to receive the new
card. Please remember to bring it! We will also be showing the new
Fire Corps uniforms: City provided polo shirts with Fire Corps logo along
with appropriate uniform pants. More information at the meeting.

------------------------------------------------

The Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay Race from Baker to Las Vegas
comes up on Saturday April 17 and Sunday April 18. Last year, several of
our members supported 2 Los Angeles County Sheriff teams (Community
Colleges and Marina Del Rey station). Some other members supported
ARES by working at one of the stages along the race course. If you are
interested in participating in this awesome event, contact Eric K6EJC
for more information.

------------------------------------------------

During the quiet season, it was suggested to consider upgrading your ham
license or take some of the FEMA ICS courses or ARRL Emergency
Communications courses available. Education and training benefits all
and makes us a better person and better qualified to handle situations that
arise. Check the www.ARRL.org or FEMA.gov web sites for more information.

------------------------------------------------

It was great seeing several members at the January ARES meeting at
Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Joy Matlack spoke about Baker to Vegas run.
The February 6 meeting topic will be Erik Pounders from USGS (Geological
Survey) and the March 6 meeting will be Duane Mariotti of Kaiser
Permanente talking about hospital disaster communications. Check the
ARES website at www.areslax.org.

------------------------------------------------

See you this Wednesday at the Firecorps ACS meeting. Don't forget to join
us for coffee social at Starbucks next to Bob's Big Boy on Riverside
Drive on Wednesdays and occasional Mondays. Check in on
446.860 R 123.0 repeater.

------------------------------------------------

Listen in on tonight's Crescenta Valley DCS net on 145.540 Simplex at
7:30 PM for our own Rick Penner W6RJP and Wanda Penner KG6GTA
as net control operators.

------------------------------------------------
