------------------------------------------------
At next month's general Fire Corps meeting (March 17, 2010) the topic
is communications. ACS is responsible for training general Fire Corps
members on proper radio communications procedures. Join us!
------------------------------------------------
Firecorps new ID exchange has been delayed due to problems with City
computer system. Your existing CDV/BEARS ID is still valid. You will be
notified when new IDs are available. New Fire Corps polo shirts will also
be issued when available.
------------------------------------------------
There are several levels of membership in the new Fire Corps program.
Everyone that joins is basically a BFCP (Burbank Fire Corps Program)
Volunteer Basic member. BFCP Volunteer 1 members have also completed
ACS Basic class (orientation to radio usage), FEMA IS-100 (Intro to ICS),
FEMA IS-200.a (ICS for Single resources) and FEMA IS-700 (Intro to NIMS).
Most BEARS/Fire Corps ACS members (and those that were members of
DCS) have already passed these courses.
The next level (BFCP Volunteer 2) requires additonal FEMA courses: IS-07
(Citizens Guide to Disaster Assistance), plus IS-22 (Are you ready?), IS-55
(Household Hazardous Materials), IC-317 (Intro to CERT), and IS-394a
(protecting home/small business from disaster.) Consider going to the
www.FEMA.gov website and take these free online courses.
------------------------------------------------
Chester Brown K6CRB will be our new liaison between Burbank Fire Corps
ACS and the MARS (Military Auxiliary Radio Service). He is also liaison
between ARES & MARS.
------------------------------------------------
Everyone should monitor the Fire Corps ACS 446.860 R 123 PL repeater
on a daily basis. Make sure this frequency along with the N6MQS
448.540 R 123.0 repeater and talkaround (on the repeater output) is
programmed into your radios.
------------------------------------------------
On Saturday, February 6 Erik Pounders W6ZKA from USGS
(Geological Survey) gave an awesome presentation on geology and
earthquakes at the ARES meeting. Duane Mariotti of Kaiser Permanente
will be talking about hospital disaster communications at the March 6
meeting. Check the ARES website at www.areslax.org. ARES meetings
are at 8AM at Valley Presbyterian Hospital Education Center
(to the right of main building).
------------------------------------------------
Don't forget to join us for coffee social at Starbucks next to Bob's Big
Boy on Riverside Drive on Wednesdays and occasional Mondays. Check
in on 446.860 R 123.0 repeater.
------------------------------------------------
The LA County DCS Mt. Disappointment repeater 145.30 R 100 PL is
temporarily out of service. Until it is repaired, they are using the EOB
repeater in East Los Angeles. For DCS messages, go to:
http://dcscopythat.wordpress.com.

During the times when the weather is threatening to rain in the Station Fire
area and we should all be aware that LASD might be calling on us to assist.
Last week, 2 District 12 memos were sent via email to everyone. These
were requesting your availability and the other was to confirm you’re
getting emails. I did not hear from the following members on either request:
M-118 Ron Powell
M-122 Joe Young
Please contact me ASAP to confirm you are getting emails.

To: All Members
From: Mike Farrell, M-001
A meeting was held at the CVS station last week to discuss possible
opportunities to assist the CVS station. A new era of cooperation
has been entered into. It is very important that everyone check their
emails at least once per day. Important messages and emergency
messages may posted daily. A request for information like your availability
is very important for you to respond to. This saves time as well as giving
us an idea of what we can put into the field. Even if you can NOT be
available, PLEASE Respond.

I would like to thank all the instructors, RRT personnel, members,
Exec. Staff, Staff, and DCO’s that assisted with the training session
on Saturday. Although we had a full schedule, the entire day worked out
without a problem and this is due to your assistance.
I would also like to thank Wyatt Underwood, Staff 66 and his team for
putting together the Risk Recognition Management class. Wyatt presented
the hour long class to a packed room of DCO’s, RRT personnel, and
members. A large amount of time and effort was put into this class
and it was very apparent. It’s an excellent class and should be taken
by all the members.
Again, thank you to everyone who assisted with the training on Saturday.
