BFCP (Burbank Fire Corps Program) ACS Net Control Operators are needed.
We ask that all our members at least ONCE A YEAR volunteer to be Net
Control Operator. If you need assistance, or desire to do it from the EOC,
let us know when you volunteer!
------------------------------------------------
Everyone should check out the BFCP (Burbank Fire Corps Program)
website at www.burbankfirecorps.org -- it’s a great resource tool.
------------------------------------------------
All Fire Corps members should have a new Fire Corps T-Shirt. This replaces
all former CDV and BEARS attire for activations. New Fire Corps polo shirts
should be available in the next few weeks.
------------------------------------------------
Thank you to Joe Dunn KF6MHL and Rob Powell KJ6BCA for assisting
with the PSJMC Providence St. Joseph Medical Center
radio drill last Monday (6/14/10). City of San Fernando Assistant City
Radio Officer Ron Powell and Scott Hoagland also participated at Holy
Cross Medical Center and Eric Christensen and Lester Santos checked
in from the LA County EMS Medical Alert Center (MAC) in Santa Fe Springs.
GREAT JOB by all! Thank you to the DARN repeater system for allowing
us to conduct the drill on the DARN system. Another larger drill is planned
for later this year.
------------------------------------------------
Thank you to Eric Christensen for assisting DCS and LA Sheriff Aero
Bureau at El Monte Airport Tuesday night (6/8/10) in support of the election.
DCS members have also been asked to assist with the November 2
general election.
------------------------------------------------
Amateur Radio “Field Day” is Saturday June 26 and Sunday June 27. Hours
are 11am Saturday to 11am Sunday. Burbank Fire Corps ACS has decided
not to have our own field day event this year. Popular local venues include
San Fernando Valley ARC at Northridge Hospital parking structure;
ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) at Pierce College; and the
Independent Radio Club (IRC) at Table Mountain near Wrightwood.
------------------------------------------------
4th of July, Independence Day at the Starlight Bowl, please volunteer;
remember this is what we do. Please email the Volunteer Coordinator,
Eric Baumgardner, eric-baumgardner@burbankfirecorps.org and specify
“July 4th” in the subject line. We need your help! Fire Corps & ACS are
major participants in this annual event and the city relies on our
assistance. So far, sign ups have been very small.
------------------------------------------------
Everyone should monitor the BFCP ACS repeaters 446.860, now identified
as “ALPHA,” along with N6MQS 448.540, now identified as “BRAVO” on
a daily basis.
------------------------------------------------
On Monday June 21st 2010 the BFCP ACS Net will be held on
our BRAVO repeater, N6MQS 448.540 with a PL of 123.0
------------------------------------------------
If you have not already done so, please contact Kris at Burbank Human
Resources (Administrative Services Bldg, 2nd floor -- across the street from
City Hall) to replace your old CDV ID with new Firecorps ID. It only takes
about 10 minutes! Her phone is 818 238-5044.
------------------------------------------------
If you know anyone interested in getting their amateur technician license,
Burbank Fire Corps ACS will be teaching a one day class at the Burbank
Fire Training Center as part of our Fire Corps ACS Comm Day on Sunday,
July 25. Instructor will be Norm Goodkin K6YXH. Test fee $4.00. For more
information or to signup, email: echristensen@burbankfirecorps.org.
------------------------------------------------
Consider upgrading your ham license. The IRC (Independent Radio Club) is
having general license class and exam on Saturday July 24 and Sunday
July 25 at Eagle Rock City Hall. Go to www.ircradio.org for more information.
ARES has General License (begins June 10) and Extra upgrade
(begins July 1) classes plus a GROL (General Radio/non-amateur) class
(begins August 12) scheduled at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.
Check www.arrllax.org for more info.
------------------------------------------------
Rob Powell KJ6BCA has agreed to be a mentor to other members in
training for net control operator. ACS is planning Saturday morning
mentoring sessions at the EOC. Contact Alex K9AKM to sign up and help.
------------------------------------------------
Don't forget to join us for coffee social at Starbucks next to Bob's Big Boy
on Riverside Drive on Wednesdays and most Mondays. Starts 5.30pm;

In order to operate a County vehicle, you must take the EVOC class
which is offered several times a year. Since we do not have a regular
schedule for this class and it has never been offered to DCS before
this time, I would like to create a list of interested members. If you are
interested or have any questions, please let me know. Please note that
this is only a list. This list does nothing more than show the number
of interested members so that I can ask for a specific number of spaces
to be held for our organization.
