Requirements:

·         18+ years of age, 16+ with written consent of a parent.

·         A California resident. Applicants must present proof of residency with either a State of California Driver's License or state-issued ID card.

·         Pass a basic Department of Justice background check.

·         And a have a desire to serve the community.

Application Process:

·         Complete the application form: The application form (click here for a pdf version).

o    Once you complete both pages of the Application (the Application Form and the Internal Database Form), you will take the application to the City of Burbank Management Services Recruitment/LiveScan Office.  The office is located at 301 East Olive Ave (on the 1st Floor).  Applications must be delivered in person because you will be finger printed (LiveScan) at the time of submitting your application.  Office hours for applications submission are:  Tuesday & Thursday from 1 PM to 5 PM and Wednesday & Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM (plan on spending from 15 to 30 minutes at the office).  No appointment is necessary, just arrive during the normal business hours.

§  If you do not have a printer readily available to print the forms, these forms are available at the office during the scheduled business times; however please plan on spending additional time at the office to complete the forms in person.

·         Submit your application: Remember, you must submit your application in person at the City of Burbank Management Services Recruitment/LiveScan Office (located at 301 East Olive Ave on the 1stFloor) and the office is only open Tuesday & Thursday from 1 PM to 5 PM and Wednesday & Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM. 

§  Although the City of Burbank normally charges for LiveScan services to the public, as a volunteer applicant for the City of Burbank, there is no fee for your LiveScan processing.

§  The Live Scan process and basic background check can vary significantly in the time that it takes for results to come back to the City of Burbank. Please be patient, this can take as little as a few days or as long as a few weeks. Once the results are back, you will be contacted to come in to finish your processing. If you have not been contacted after three (3) weeks, you should contact the LiveScan Office to follow-up (818-238-5340). If your results are still not back, please be patient, this is out of the city's control.  You should continue to check with the Live Scan Office periodically thereafter until your results are back.

·         Taking the Oath of Affirmation: Once your background check results are back, the LiveScan Office will contact you to come in and be administered the "Oath of Affirmation" in accordance with California Government Code Sections 3100 - 3109.

·         Documents to Take with You: Make sure you bring the following documents with you when you submit your application

o    Completed application form (available on website under the documents tab, in the application folder).  If you are unable to print and bring a completed application, you may fill one out in person at the office.

o    Completed internal database form (second page of new member application package available under the documents tab, in the application folder).  If you are unable to print and bring a completed application, you may fill one out in person at the office.

o    You will need to bring a valid California Driver's License or other form of valid government issued identification with you both when you submit your application and when you come back after your background check has been completed to finish processing. 


Please note, it can take up to 4 weeks from the time you take your LiveScan for the background check to be completed and for you to be contacted regarding coming in to be issued an identification card.  Although you cannot participate in operational activities as a volunteer until you take the Oath of Affirmation and receive your identification card, we highly encourage you to still attend the regular monthly meetings (these are open to the public).
